The Primary is Done, Next Stop the General in November

Hello members and friends of the 44th,

The August Primary is officially behind us. Absolutely stellar results and everyone should be proud of the incredible work they’ve done to help get out the vote. The 44th LD Democrats were proud to endorse a number of outstanding candidates, and we are thrilled to see such stellar results across the board. Senator Lovick, Rep. Donaghy, Rep. Berg, and Judge Hawk, congratulations to you and your teams for your primary victories! We appreciate your service and dedication to the 44th community. We are excited to support you on the road to victory at the general in November.

I also wanted to take a moment to recognize the candidates whose campaigns did not advance beyond the primary last week. We all recognize that running for office takes guts and personal sacrifice. Not just the hours of physical work knocking on doors, calling voters, posting on social media and fundraising, but also the time away from family and the sacrifice to privacy at times as your life is opened up to your neighbors and strangers you have yet to meet. While the primary may not have ended the way you planned, please know that your willingness to step up and serve your community truly matters. Our nation is better when people step up, bring forward new ideas and work to build a better future for all of us.

As someone who has run myself, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the experience, celebrate what you were able to accomplish, consider the lessons you've gained along the way, and most importantly, stay engaged. Building a better future for our community does not end on election day but is a consistent effort out of elected office. We need dedicated leaders and members of the community to help us build that better tomorrow we all wish to see.

Speaking of the future, it is never too early to start thinking about the next election cycle. If you have ever considered serving in an elected position, I encourage you to get involved and keep an eye on positions that may become available next year. If you are interested in serving your people and running for office, please reach out. We would be happy to connect you with training opportunities and resources to help you take the next step.

Another fabulous opportunity to get involved is to join your fellow 44th members at the upcoming general meeting tomorrow at 7pm in Mill Creek or join us via zoom. Click here to check out the agenda. And finally, a shameless plug: please join us for our 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Friday, August 28, at Willis Tucker Park, Shelter 1 (ADA compliant). This has become a favorite 44th tradition and would love to see you there. Grab your tickets, bring your appetite, and join us for a great evening of food, friendly competition, games, and friendship. Learn more and get your tickets here.

Forward, together,
Hillary Moralez
