Welcome potential candidate!
The 44th Legislative District is open to considering any democratic or non-partisan candidate running for office within the legislative district boundaries.
We are now taking new candidate submissions
Whether you are running as an incumbent or a new candidate, please participate in the endorsement committee process. The endorsement committee’s desire is to collect information that is important to our constituents in Snohomish County and for partisan offices, to get a feel for your Democratic values. This questionnaire will help us evaluate those candidates that are seeking our endorsement. We will evaluate candidates based on several means of information beyond this questionnaire. At the discretion of the chair of the endorsement committee, you may be invited to an interview with the full committee.
The endorsement committee will evaluate your endorsement request and make a recommendation to our membership. You may be invited to the membership meeting to make a brief statement and possibly answer a few questions. If you would like to be considered for endorsement, we highly encourage you to submit your endorsement request via the online form below as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the Endorsement Committee Chair at endorsements@44thdems.com.
Meet Our Endorsed Candidates
Heather Young
With declining enrollment, rising costs, and a rapidly evolving federal landscape, most would agree that our public schools are struggling. Now, more than ever, we need leaders that are dedicated to respectfully engaging with our students, staff, and divided communities in constructive dialogue across diverse viewpoints. Throughout my career I have succeeded in roles that required deep subject matter expertise and diplomacy, world-class change management, negotiation, and communication skills, and extensive legal and financial acumen. Thankfully my military service strengthened my ability to navigate whatever may lay ahead. My decades of personal and professional successes working at the intersections of legislation, policy, practice, and people will help me ensure our district is successful in managing all the moving parts needed to bring meaningful change - particularly when it comes to public education’s legal and budgetary frameworks. Our public schools are a critical part of our community. The long term success of our kids, families and local public schools are closely linked, so the choice of school director is an important one.

My priorities include strengthening student safety, expanding support and training for teachers and staff, and advancing student-centered budgeting and decision-making at every level.

I envision a stronger future for Mill Creek—one that embraces progress while honoring the city's character. More than 20 years ago, we chose Mill Creek to raise our family, drawn to green spaces and a neighborly atmosphere. My vision is that our younger generations are eager to return to build their lives here.
